I'm
bored folks, and when I'm bored, I start looking up trivia about my
favorite shows. And since I, J-foo, and StormWulf, are super excited
to see the new Doctor Who special, I can't but HELP wanting to learn
more.
My main trivia I have focused on over the months has been "Who in the HELL is John hurt, and how is he the doctor if he's not the twelfth doctor?!"
Well, after watching that episode... More times than intended, I managed to pick out some names and references I didn't know. Now I know hard core who fans probably pieced this together already , but I'd like to give it a shot myself.
When the Great Intelligence was demanding the Doctors name, he stated "even before the Doctors time is up, he shall be known as, "the Valeyard" which in gallifreyan means "The Prosecutor" (specifically "learned court prosecutor"). The Valeyard is an off shoot of darkness, originating from the doctor himself.
That being said, when John hurt appeared in the center of the doctors timeline, the doctor made it clear that all at the heart of the timeline was him, or a form of him. And then hurt appears, Clara simply asking "that doesn't look like the Doctor..."
The doc quickly replied "that is me..."
Clara: but I've seen all of the Doctor.
Doc: I said he was me... Not the Doctor... The Doctor is the name I chose, just like you choose yours... And the Doctor, is a promise to the universe... And he... Broke the promise..."
So, the speculation is this. Is this non-doctor, the Valeyard? Was it he who locked the time lords away? Why did he break that promise and how? And... Is he considered a true regeneration? Is he the true 9th doctor, or a newer regeneration? Or is he simply an offshoot of the doc? If he IS a true regeneration, wouldn't this make the 12th doctor... The 13th? Since Time Lords only have 12 regenerations, Does this mean when river gave up her regens to save the Doctor's life... Did the doc, in turn, get more regens?
There are so many questions that need answers... And I hope this special gives them to us...
