PREVIEWS AND REVIEWS: THE WORLD OF THIEF AND BEYOND!!!!!!!!!!!

GREETINGS NERDS AND FELLOW GAMING ENTHUSIASTS!!!!!!!! Stormwulf has return from parts unknown, to bring to you a new console gaming update. This update is going to be special because, Stormwulf (out of his love for his readers mind you) has spent the last month or so trecking into unknown lands and countries to bring to you, for your reading pleasure, a little review of...THIEF! So stay tuned for that. Before I get too far ahead of myself I would like to take a minute or so to go over new releases and some updates on past posts.
 First off, as many of you have probably noticed quite alot has hit store shelves over the last month starting with;
-South Park: The Stick of Truth (PS3, PC, X360)
      -Dark Souls II (PS3, X360)
-Titan Fall (XBO, PC)-For those of you wondering, Titan Fall WILL be on X360. However you will have to wait till April 8th before you can recieve your copy. For whatever reason EA and Respawn Entertainment thought it would be fun to make 360 owners wait another month before they can play it. It have damn well better be worth it.
Sorry got off on a bit of a tangent, returning to primary directive:
      -Yoshi's New Island (3DS)
      - Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster (PS3)

-Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes (PS3. PS4, X360, XBO)
      -Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z (PS3, X360)
      -Infamous: Second Son (PS4)
      -Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z (PC)
*FANS OF THE BATMAN: ARKHAM SERIES WILL WANT TO READ THIS NEXT SECTION!!!!*
For those of us lucky enough to have played them, the Batman: Arkham series have held a since of enjoyment and thrill. That all is about to change for us though be cause Rock Steady have annouced that the next and final title, Batman: Arkham Knight will not be returning to the Playstation 3 and XBOX 360. Rock Steady has instead decided to release it EXCLUSIVELY onto the PS4 and XBOX One.

Okay I think that about covers things on the update side of things, now for the real reason we're all gathered here...Thief.

Now bare with me here this is my first game review...like ever...so just keep that in mind. I will try my best to make this simple and easy to read and understand without giving away too much of the game because, this is after all just a review and not a complete walkthrough, you want hardcore details about secrets and hidden treasures your gonna have to go somewhere else.

                                      Thief
Platform: 360, PS3, PC, XBX ONE, PS4

Genre: First-Person, Stealth

Plot Summary: Take on the role of Garrett, a master thief, as he steals his way through The City, and tries to find answers to over a years worth of questions: What happened at the Baron's Manor? What is happening to the people of the City? and What happened to his former apprentice?

                                                       Rating

Over all Game Score:  8.5/10  (With an ingenius and enitcing story,  near flawless stealth oriented gameplay, diferent ways to complete missions and objectives, coupled with some of the most intense moments in gaming this year. Thief makes players want to come for the gold but stay around for the phenominal story.)

Game Replay-ability: 7.75/10 (Moderately High)

Graphics: 7.5/10 (Phenominal character, environmental, and textural designing helps to makes player feel as though they are actually experiencing this dirty, grimy, yet some what beautiful city as they trapse along in search of precious boubles and trinkets)

Sound Quaility: 8/10 (An excellent musical score and great sound effects combine to help further engross players in to this exciting new world)

Combat (Non-Stealth): 4.5/10 (do to a lack of an efficient melee weapon and somewhat poor, non-stealth oriented, combat mechanics)

Combat (Stealth): 7/10

Over-all Story/Plot: 9/10 (Thief excells at keeping the player guessing what will happen next and in effect coming back for more time and time again to find out what happens next)

Over-all Game Mechanics: 7.75/10

Review:  Over recent years we have seen a almost significant increase in reboots of older and classic games. Some of them were good, and in some instances better than their predecessors, games like Tomb Raider (2013), DmC: Devil May Cry, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, and Rayman: Origins. While some have not been very good at all, we're talking games like: Duke Nukem: Forever, Golden Axe: Beast Rider, and Sonic the Hedgehog (2006). This year we saw the release of another reboot in Thief, and you can rest assured that it will be counted amoung those game reboots worthy enough to be label as sucessful. Thief, which has some of the best developemental predigree around, was developed by Eidos Montreal and published by Square Enix. The game puts you into the shoes of Garrett (no lastname apparently), a master thief extrodinaire, as he piliages and plunders his way to answer and so much gold that even Scrooge McDuck would be jealous of. Combine that with an intriguing and exciting story and throw in some pretty intense horror elements and you go yourself the makings of a pretty decent game.
Now for the not so shiny side of this otherwise perfect diamond. While Thief shines at the stealth stuff, it dulls in combat. Players, when prgroessing through the game, are equipped with a compound bow, and more arrow types than a hillbilly can swing his banjo at, and a Black-jack. Now while this is a menacing combo when used as a part of stealth combat, it's really not a good thing for players who prefer open combat, because once spotted and combat commences, the black-jack becomes as about as useful as a toddler with a foam sword against the city watch who are armed with long swords and crossbows. You can completely forget about using the bow in open combat because, even when full upgraded, it takes too long for it to aim properly and once you take a hit players have to completely re-orientate themselves as well as aim again, which by the take you do all of that you been hit again and have to do it all over again.
Along with its shotty open combat mechanics comes one of the poorest attempts at a character progression system I've seen in a while. In most games continued use of an ability or eliminating enemies generally rewards the player with Experience points players can then use to progress character abilities or skills. Thief takes a completly different route by forcing players to either seek out impoosible to find Focus Points or to spent hard earned money to upgrade skills, Which in itself I wouldnt mind, if you didnt have to use money to upgrade your equipment and to purchase more supplies. So if a player only has 2,000 gld they have to then choose whether or not to spend that money on focus points, refilling their supply stocks, or upgrading their equipment (which mind you gets extremely expensive as the game progresses).
With it's intense story, exciting stealth gameplay, and the assurance of a possible sequel, Thief shines as a bright beacon of hope in the dark and dreary world of gaming reboots and seals in position as one of the best games to hit store shelves this season. I can fully as your gaming guru can feel no remousre in telling you to go out purchase this title, if only so that you as readers can expericene this game for yourself.

---This is has been StormWulf on be half of Nerds                                                                                      Socialize...Stay frosty folks....

Virtual consoles expanded for the Wii U

Hey Folks, J-Foo here! I'm here to talk about Virtual consoles! I have several virtual consoles games, Ranging from "Super Mario World" to "Super Smash Bros." and I love playing each and every one of them! I especially love the Japan only releases. But... This is where I become conflicted... As you may know... I'm a big retro gamer... I love my retro games... I love the cartridges, I love how difficult they are to get to work, and I love how I have to essentially cough up a lung blowing into the game to mysteriously get it to work.

But does that mean Virtual consoles aren't worth it? I mean the price of the virtual console version of a game is about the same price as the physical retro copy USED!... Well the benefits and the disadvantage become clear when I put my nostalgia aside for old gaming tech.

Pros to virtual consoles:
It's pretty obvious that virtual consoles are pretty handy to have. You can play them on your Wii/U/3DS at any time. Being a big punch out fan, I love that I can play that game on several different consoles. ALSO, you don't have to change out the cartridge, and on top of that, it saves space having to store bulky cartridges. And having to hunt down a psychical  copy of a game that actually WORKS, and the console or clone console, and they ultimately have a shelf life. Where as for virtual console games, the shelf life is as long as the system lasts. And finally, you get access to games that weren't originally available in America.

Cons to virtual consoles:
So as for what is WRONG with virtual console games, is that if your console bites the dust, the that's it, or at least for the wii. If your Wii went belly up, and had to get a new one, you have to buy them all over again. I think Nintendo solved this with the 3DS and WiiU, but I'm not 100% on that. You also lose that priceless nostalgia of the good old days, unless that was before your time and are a horrible person. And if you already own said games, but just want to be able to play it on your console, you'd have to pay for it again (I've done this, and it's a small trade off since my games get played a lot).

conclusion:
From what I can gather, virtual consoles are amazing and convenient, and allow us to relive good old times, minus some nostolgia. But that isn't to say retro games aren't worth having. Each one has their place in our hearts. Retro games to relive the beginning, and virtual games to remind us how it all started, and in the end, we're still playing great games either way.

SJBC Classic Gaming Tournament of Champions!

Well, Nerds Socialize (J-Foo and Mr. Cucoon) managed to find ourselves a the SJBC Classic Gaming Tournament of Champions! It's a retro videogame tournament held by the community in which we live. this year was the 5th annual tournament. J-Foo attended the 4th one and almost made it to the finals, but got eliminated at the last minute.

The rules of the tournament were simple. there were 6 games:

Marble Madness
UN Sqaudron
Super Punchout!
Pac-Man
Hogan's Alley
Minecraft

There was a time limit of 3 minutes for all games. For most games (all but minecraft) you had to get the highest score possible in 3 minutes. J-Foo managed to get two high scores. He smashed the scores on Marble madness and Super Punchout!. J-Foo's scores were up there for most of the event. Mr. Cocoon managed to get the high score on UN Squadron without even trying to get one. and as for minecraft, the goal was to build something awesome in 3 minutes. Eventually, J-Foo's Punchout score was beaten, but no one even surpassed his marble madness score. So J-Foo and Mr. Cocoon made it to the finals. the final test was Dual tetris. Clear as many lines as possible in three minutes as a team. They some how pulled off 2nd place! so much awesome today. J-Foo really needed this today, for he has been having personal issues as of yesterday, so congratz!

Heres the break down of the play by play:

J-Foo chose two games he knew he would be good at. Punchout he thought he would go undefeated since he's played that game since he first started playing games. He's played it on ever console imaginable, even hacked ones.

He then chose Marble Madness. He wasn't exactly sure if he could maintain the high score on it, but it's a game he's owned since childhood, and he needed a second game to get a score in to ensure his spot in the finals. He then set high scores in both games for the longest part of 2 hours.

Then the unthinkable happened! Someone beat his punchout! score of 36190 at 41710. So he stepped back up to the plate and tried again. This time J-Foo practically doubled his score from last time with a wopping 78,310. and it stayed like that for most of the day. and only one person got close enough to almost beat his marble madness score of 19,240, and all failed to do so. eventually though, J-foo's Punchout! score was beaten again by the same person with a wopping 87,410. Luckily he kept his marble maddness score:

(A wild Mr. Cocoon has appeared!)

So the team of Mr. Cocoon and J-Foo made it to the finals for the ultimate tests! a test that only FOOLS attempt! to fall into the good graces of the Tetris god! in.... DUAL TETRIS!!!! a team sits down and plays Tetris for the N64 on marathon mode for 3 minutes. then you add up the total lines cleared and that's the teams score! Lucily J-Foo and Mr. Cocoon were in the Tetris Gods good graces and set the highscore... until our hopes of first place were DASHED in an instant when our score was beaten by 11 points.

WHY TETRIS GOD!? WHHHHHHY!!!!! We'll never acheive Tetris Nirvana now.... BUT there was a plus side... out of all the trophies... second place looked the coolest!

This will do nicely on J-Foo's mantle next to Mario and Luigi! INFACT! it already does!

We had so much fun! Thanks to all the people running the event! it was a blast and I look forward to it next year. if you wanna participate next year, I'll try to keep you informed on the event. it's nothing big, just a small gathering and it's free to enter, and there is lots of free food! Hopefully more pics to come soon guys! See you on the other side!

That's right! Another new challenger awaits us in the new Smash Brothers game coming out for the Wii U!!! Rosalina and Luma from Super Mario Galaxy! I've not played the Galaxy series of mario games, but I hear they're fun, and Rosalina looks like a fun character. She seems pretty powerful in the teaser video they released... she's still no Zelda though... Come on Nintendo... I DARE you not to add zelda... Wulfie and I will just add you to our Game company hit list if you don't add her... On the bright side, you'll be the first major video game/console developer to make the list!... so... Bring her back... or else Nintendo...

So the roster is now as follows!

Marth (Fire Emblem)
Sonic (Sonic the hedgehog)
Peach (Super Mario)
Luigi (Super Mario)

SMASHING UPDATE: NEW CHALLENGER APPROACHES!! Marth!

Well folks, it looks like we're on the Marth train now. I know Mr.Cucoon is excited, being Marth is her favorite character to play as in smash bros. This guy here though, prefers Roy from Melee over Marth, but hey, nobody is perfect. So that aside, Marth isn't a bad character. He's quick, and strikes with precision. Sadly, you need to utilize a lot of that to actually manage to knock someone out of the ring with him, for Marth is a bit on the weak side. But speed and precision do help make up for that.

Now all I need them to do at Nintendo is to STOP TOYING WITH ME AND ANNOUNCE SHIEK/ZELDA!... okay.. okay... breathe... breathe... I'll.. be fine... I'll... Be fine.............. ZELDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!

So the roster is now as follows!

Marth (Fire Emblem)
Sonic (Sonic the hedgehog)
Peach (Super Mario)
Luigi (Super Mario)
Mario (Super Mario)
Bowser (Super Mario)
Olimar (Pikman)
The Villager (Animal Crossing)
Donkey Kong (Donkey Kong)
Megaman (Megaman)
Link (Legend of Zelda)
Toon Link (LoZ: Windwaker)
Wii Fit Trainer (Wii Fit)
Samus (Metroid)
Kirby (Kirby)
Fox (Star Fox)
Pikachu (Pokemon)
Pit (Kid Icarus)

PLEASE! PLEASE BRING ZELDA BACK!!!!

SMASHING UPDATE! NEW CHALLENGER APPROACHES: TOON LINK!!!

(Toon Link owning Luigi and Kirby)

It's time for another SMASHING update for our favorite beat'em up fighting game, SUPER SMASH BROTHERS!!!! The next character to OFFICALLY be added to the roster is Toon Link!!!

Albeit, not my favorite character in Smash Brothers, but he gave us some fun times in Brawl. He's back with his magic wandy thingy, and his other moves that just make him so much more sillier than regular Link. So the updated roster is now up to 16 playable characters. COME ON NINTENDO!! JUST ANNOUNCE ZELDA SO I CAN REST IN PEACE!!! And IF she is in the game, she better be able to transform in to Sheik! So the roster reads as so:

Peach (Super Mario)
Luigi (Super Mario)
Mario (Super Mario)
Bowser (Super Mario)
Olimar (Pikman)
The Villager (Animal Crossing)
Donkey Kong (Donkey Kong)
Megaman (Megaman)
Link (Legend of Zelda)
Toon Link (LoZ: Windwaker)
Wii Fit Trainer (Wii Fit)
Samus (Metroid)
Kirby (Kirby)
Fox (Star Fox)
Pikachu (Pokemon)
Pit (Kid Icarus)

Smashing Smash bros updates!

As you may know, The Smash Bros. Series and the unlockables that are hidden in the game are usually a well kept secret, played close to the vest by Director Masahiro Sakurai. He keeps things under intense lockdown until he is ready to reveal the big secrets. With Brawl, we had to wait for months at a time, up to about a couple months til the game was released when the full roster was finally released. So we here at Nerds Socialize will be giving you the smashing updates to your favorite Nintendo beat'em up title!

For the first update, we give you the roster list!:
Luigi
Olimar
Villager - NEW
Mario
Donkey Kong
Megaman - NEW
Link
Samus
The Wii Fit Trainer - NEW
Kirby
Fox
Pikachu
Bowser
Pit

Now sadly, that's all we have that are 100% confirmed. But we all know, there is always a ton more characters to be unlocked in these games. Since Brawl had 39 playable characters, all we can hope for is 39 or more characters in this one. We all know we'd like to see Snake back for some more fun for sure. Ike would be fun, and Marth is a Smash bros staple. I personally want Zelda/Shiek back in the game, with a few improvements to Shiek. Also, a character I have't seen since Melee that I want back is Roy. And... will the infamous Game & Watch return? It's hard to tell, but with time, we'll find out, and we'll make sure you know when we do.

On a side note, which characters, new or old would you want back in the New Smash Bros?
